Play Better Golf

\"playAsk any golf player what they would most like to improve in playing better golf and you will get the same answer from all, if not most, of them. The most common answer would be their swing on the golfing turf.  The mechanism of the golfing swing takes practice and positive thinking along with positive reinforcement.  To play better golf one has to be in the “golfing” frame of mind.

A person who plays golf not only has to have the mechanism of the swing down pat, but the mental ability to focus on his or her target.  One almost has to envision that “hole” down at the end of their imaginary line of travel.

On “golfing” days, to play better golf, build yourself up and get ready to put your plan and focus in to action.  You can even go as far as to talk yourself in to it or better yet, talk to yourself.

Thinking positive thoughts creates much confidence and thereby creates positive feelings about oneself.  The definition of confidence is “having a belief in something.”  Who better to believe in than yourself.   Tell yourself repeatedly that you can do it, you can swing that club and hit that ball in the hole.  Above all else, you must focus on your swing and that imaginary line that was mentioned above.

One last important tip on playing better golf is to exercise your “swinging” muscle, in other words, your rotator cuff muscle.  The rotator cuff muscle is the muscle of the shoulder.  Take a pair of weights and hold one in each hand while sitting in a chair with a straight back.  Keep your hands down to your sides and face your palms in an inward direction.

While you are holding the weights raise the both of your arms at the same time out to the sides of you coming up to about your shoulders.  You need to maintain this position for approximately 3 seconds.  You can then lower your arms back to their sides slowly.

Do this exercise approximately 8 to 10 times.  You may then relax, take a couple of deep breaths and do it again.  Do this exercise daily.  Slowly build up from there in terms of repetition.  If this is too difficult with the weights you may start without using them and then slowly build up to them until your arms are a bit stronger.

Putting the above suggestions in to play will help you to play better golf.  It will not happen overnight so do not become impatient and do not give up.  With confidence, exercise, and practice you can learn to play better golf.  It is mind over matter with some skill mixed in.
