Fashion faux pas

Fashion styles change almost every season. Each year there is a new color, cut and style of clothing as well as haircuts and makeup which go in and out of fashion. However, no matter what the fashion trend there are a few things that are never flattering and are never in fashion. As the ability to communicate freely has increased with the use of the Internet, so has the speed of the constantly changing world of fashion.

Here are several mistakes that neither men nor women should make when they dress themselves before going out or even staying in.

1. Visible panty lines do not look good on either men or women. While it is more common to see visible lines on women, or even thongs that stick up above the waistline (truly tacky!), visible lines on men might even be even worse.

2. As the fashion world has increased the variety of available to both men and women in the undergarment industry, both sexes must be careful not to wear undergarments which are visible through the clothing. For instance, do not wear a black bra with a white shirt or printed underwear with white pants.

3. Women should be careful when selecting their bras. Those which don\’t adequately contain the girls should be pitched and new ones should be purchased. Avoid the uniboob look by carefully choosing a bra that both lifts and separates.

4. The material on anything should never pull or gape. Women are especially prone to this issue when shirts do not have adequate material to cover the breasts. Shirts should never gape between buttons. However, both men and women have difficulty with ill fitting pants which may pull at the pockets. If you cannot sit down in your pants, you should not be wearing them at all! It\’s time to go up a size and save this pair to wear when you\’ve lost a couple of pounds.

5. Those of us who are tall may find it more challenging to purchase pants which fit correctly directly off the rack. Even those who are short will have the same challenge. In this instance, it is best to make the acquaintance of a seamstress who can hem the pants to the appropriate length. Some may have to shop at a tall store which accommodates the extra length in the pants.

6. Some teenagers find its exquisitely fashionable to wear pants whose crotch reaches the knees and require walking with the legs spread wide to keep the pants hiked up. This is definitely not a good look for anyone, including the teenagers. Watch carefully to be sure that your pants do not droop and your underwear is not showing.

7. Fanny packs lost their ability to be worn not soon after they were designed. Unless you are hiking in the woods leave the fanny pack at home and pare down the amount of \”stuff\” that you have to bring so it fits in your pockets or in a purse.

8. Many of us do not like walking out in shoes without socks or nylons because it only leads to blisters. In the past the solution has been a pair of peds, or half nylon socks that fit over the feet and allow your feet to slip comfortably into the shoe. However, as the stylish shoes has slowly reduced in cuts these peds are now fully visible. Instead try using toe covers that keep your feet from blistering, offer a bit of padding and remain sight unseen.

9. Underwear was never meant as an outer shirt. Unfortunately, many men believe that the skin tight, ribbed undershirts were meant to be worn in public as an open display of their masculinity and bulging muscles. They are, however, sadly mistaken as they just look gross and speak volumes about how these men feel about themselves.

10. Every woman loves wearing a good pair of fashion boots. Chosen correctly they never go out of style and can be worn with long pants or long skirts. However, they should never be worn with cropped pants or capris!
