Managing Goals and Time

Researchers have found that the keys to anyone\’s success is setting goals and managing their time. Whether an individual is interested in developing romance, approaching marriage, seeking a promotion or planning for their retirement, goals provides a roadmap that must be followed in order to achieve success. And time management is the only way in which an individual can finish those goals. For instance, an individual who wants to retire as a millionaire must make the time to learn how to invest their money or learn how to make more money. They need goals and they require the initiative and knowledge to manage their time successfully.

The direction in which we move is more important than where we are going at the current moment. Goals help us to stretch ourselves, our belief about ourselves and send us down a road less traveled. Goal setting is absolutely necessary and we actually do it without knowing we do it. This means that even if you do not believe you set goals you actually do because by failing to plan you have planned to fail. By failing to create goals for yourself and your family you have planned for yourself and your family to fail. That, in and of itself, is the goal.

But goals do not have to be difficult to write, or scary to achieve. In fact, most individuals know exactly what they want and desire but are too afraid to believe that they can achieve them. Think about your life and the priorities you have set to this point. We need to have the desire to achieve something in life, that which we call success. But without defining what it is we are often left to wander through the days of our lives, completely lost and unaware of our dilemma.

Goal setting can rejuvenate you and help you to gain a better understanding and motivation to achieve your goals. Next you must set short-term goals which are well balanced, achievable, reasonable, specific and timely. In other words, you must be able to identify the goal you want to achieve as well as identify whether or not you have achieved it. Look ahead and decide where you want to be in the next five years. Set your mind on this and develop short-term goals or short-term tasks that will keep you on track.

Our goals define the roadmap we need to achieve success in our lives but managing our time gives us control over both our lives and the ability to achieve those goals.

Most of us are responsible for both ourselves and others. That responsibility may extend to a loved pet, employees, friends, relatives, spouse or children. Almost all of us have responsibilities to someone or something else. And, when all is said and done, we also have responsibilities to ourselves.

Using appropriate time management skills, you should be able to increase the amount of projects or products which they can achieve. It is important not to neglect the need for \”fun\” in your life, but transversely also important not to neglect the time needed or required to be productive.

Many of our time management skills were learned in high school when mom sat over our shoulders and made sure that our homework was done. Sometimes that transferred to college years and we continue to make good grades. However, once high school and college are over, the amount of structure in our lives declined significantly which is a significant challenge for those who are not internally motivated. In other words, those of us who find it a challenge to complete a task unless someone else is standing over our shoulders will find it difficult to manage their time appropriately when they are no longer in school or responsible to a professor.

Those who do learn time management skills finds that they gain time during the day and become more highly motivated, taking the initiative to finish tasks that may not be required in this time frame. Individuals who practice good time management skills also reduce the amount of avoidance they practice of tasks they don\’t wish to do as well as eliminating or reducing anxiety.

Individuals who practice good time management skills must practice those with goals in mind. Goals set the stage for individuals who wish to achieve success in their lives and also help to structure time management skills to help them individual achieve those goals.
